DeKamer FAQs

About Coworking

What is a coworking space?

The coworking spaces at DeKamer are shared workplaces where freelancers, remote workers, startups, clubs and nonprofits, and small businesses work independently while sharing facilities and resources. Instead of renting a traditional office, members of DeKamer share the workspace, helping to reduce costs while benefiting from a professional working environment.

There are a lot of different kinds of coworking, from virtual office providers, to collectives, to campus type approaches, to places consisting only of meeting rooms. This approach has worked for DeKamer since 2010. You rent the entire space and so does everyone else. You give us permission to manage the space so that you have what you need when you need it, and everyone else does also.

At DeKamer, we follow the principles of Open Coworking. Members share more than just desks. They share resources, knowledge and a community built on the five values of Open Coworking: Collaboration, Openness, Community, Accessibility, and Sustainability.

Why choose coworking instead of a traditional office?

Coworking at DeKamer offers the flexibility of professional office space without the commitment of a long-term commercial lease. It allows you to scale your workspace as your business grows, while sharing facilities that would often be too expensive to maintain on your own.

For many entrepreneurs, coworking also creates opportunities to connect with other professionals, exchange ideas and build valuable business relationships.

What is the future of coworking in the Netherlands?

As hybrid working becomes the norm, more businesses are choosing flexible workspaces that match how people actually work. Rather than paying for offices that sit empty, organisations are looking for spaces that combine flexibility, professional facilities and opportunities to collaborate.

We welcome employees as well as entrepreneurs and independent workers.

Coworking continues to grow because it offers a practical, cost-effective alternative to traditional office space. Also way more fun.

Business Registration and Mail Processing

Can I register my business (KvK) at DeKamer?

Yes. You can use DeKamer as your official business address for your Chamber of Commerce (KvK) registration.

This gives you a professional business address while keeping your home address private. There are no start-up costs and no minimum contract period for the business address service.

Do I have to register my business at DeKamer?

No, of course not. You can also just book the space: in that case you will need to pay in advance of your coming. The easiest way to do this is to contact us on WhatsApp and let us know which location you are interested in. Different spaces have different availability on different days, though, so please do not just show up.

What is the difference between a business registration address and a mailing address?

A business registration address is your official legal address used for your KvK registration.

A mailing address is used for receiving and/or sending post and parcels.

DeKamer offers both services, allowing you to choose the option that best suits your business. We also offer a Webshop Service (fulfillment) for businesses that need support with shipping, returns and storage.

In addition, in several of our locations you can enter a contract for a permanent establishment, where that is required by the tax authorities. Our basic membership does not qualify as a permanent establishment, for this more is needed. If the tax authorities are requiring a permanent establishment, you should work with a professional bookkeeper or advisor who is familiar with this requirement.

How does DeKamer handle my post and parcels?

It’s your office. We will handle this any way you would like. But in general there are several common mail handling options, depending on how you work.

You can of course pick up your mail or have someone pick it up for you. We can send you a Whatsapp of the unopened or opened mail when it arrives just so you know what is waiting for you. Many members choose instead to have their post scanned and uploaded to our management software, Zapfloor. We can also forward your mail by post or courier if needed. Parcels are safely stored by your Community Manager until you’re ready to collect them.

Your Community Manager can help you choose the option that works best for you. address is your official legal address used for your KvK registration.

Membership, Rates and Workspaces

How does DeKamer’s pricing work?

Our pricing is designed around how you actually use the workspace. Rather than paying for an office that isn’t always occupied, you only pay for the level of access and services you need. It is an on demand office in some ways.

Membership options start from €39 per month, with flexible solutions for business addresses, part-time workspace and dedicated workstations.

Can I access the workspace 24/7?

This depends on the location you choose. Most of our locations are accessible during business hours.

In Oosterhout, Kamer52, members with a Part-time Workspace or a Fixed Workspace membership receive 24/7 access to their location.

This gives you the flexibility to work when it suits you, whether that’s during standard office hours or outside them.

Do you offer private spaces for confidential calls or meetings?

Yes. While DeKamer is built around shared coworking, members also have access to meeting rooms and separate spaces for confidential conversations, workshops and client meetings.

Availability may vary between locations.

Community and Networks

What is the networking and ‘borrel’ culture like at DeKamer?

Community has always been an important part of life at DeKamer. At many of our locations, regular borrels, lunches, workshops, courses and informal gatherings can be organised throughout the year. Since the pandemic we have stopped organising these ourselves and instead encourage our coworkers to do so, as our members seem to be more interested in and excited by that approach.

These events give members the opportunity to meet other entrepreneurs, exchange knowledge and grow their professional network. Participation is always optional.

It is your office so we will organise these if you ask us to; otherwise you can organise them yourself. Your Community Manager will help you with this.

Are DeKamer locations welcoming to expats and migrants?

Yes. DeKamer is proud to be a migrant-friendly coworking community and we welcome professionals from a wide range of backgrounds, including expats, international entrepreneurs and newcomers to the Netherlands.

We believe that diverse communities create stronger businesses. By bringing together people with different experiences and perspectives, we create opportunities for collaboration, learning and professional growth. English is widely spoken across our community, helping new members feel welcome from day one.

Who can join the DeKamer community?

DeKamer is open to freelancers, ZZP’ers, startups, remote employees, digital nomads, growing businesses, foundations and nonprofits, clubs, and anyone looking for a flexible professional workspace.

Whether you need a business address, a few days of workspace each month or your own dedicated desk, a place to give classes or hold gatherings, we have a membership option to suit your business. We even have storage and fulfilment for webshops and import/export companies!

Laws, Regulations and Security

Why do you want to know so much about my business when I join DeKamer?

DeKamer is a shared workspace. We manage your workspace which you share with the other members. To do this well we need to know who you are and what kind of business you have. We need to be able to verify this information because our model embraces people who are here every day as well as people who only come occasionally, and anyone can say anything on the internet.

Also, to comply with Dutch and EU laws and regulations, DeKamer carries out identity and business verification for services such as business registration and virtual office memberships.

These checks help protect our community from questionable operators, prevent misuse of our locations, and ensure we meet our legal obligations under anti-money laundering, anti-fraud, and anti-terrorism financing (AML) regulations.

Our hobby is not collecting massive amounts of personal information, so we only need the same kinds of documents you have to provide to your bank or the KvK. We are all under the same regulations in that sense.

We believe that the best communities are built on earned trust: if you do not like the idea of us getting to know your story and about your business, this is probably not the place for you.

What documents do I need to provide?

The documents required depend on the services you use and whether you’re registering as an individual or a business.

Your Community Manager will guide you through the process and let you know exactly what information is needed before your membership starts. Here is the questionnaire and instructions in Dutch and English so you know what is needed.

Why does DeKamer ask about my business activities?

As part of our AML responsibilities, we may ask for information about your business, its activities or its ownership structure.

Here is our onboarding form in Dutch and English.

This is a standard part of our verification process and helps us maintain a safe, transparent and compliant coworking community for all members.

Is my personal information kept secure?

Yes. Any personal or business information collected as part of our verification process is handled securely and in line with applicable privacy legislation.

We only request information that is necessary to provide our services and meet our legal obligations.
